Meet Nicole – a member of our tribe who sings and writes under the artist name Olive B (check her out!!!) Wit her new single released yesterday, “Always You” (her first release since her last album drop in May!), we thought there was no better time so get to know this talented creative whose positive presence frequents the studios 3+ times a week.
Tell us a bit about your day to day hustle.
My day to day hustle starts around 9:30 make it to a MISFIT class, work on a few songs that I have on the go, work on grant applications, research blogs, then either go to my serving job for 9 hours or if I have the night off go to the recording studio for 9 hours. I prefer going to the studio.
What's your MISFIT love story?
I started going to MISFIT in March of last year. A friend of mine told me about it and how much she enjoyed the classes. At that time in my life I did no form of exercise so I thought I would try it out. My first class was Lindsay's GET CHEEKY, and I instantly fell in love and have been going 3 - 4 times a week ever since!
What is it that drew you to MISFIT?
The whole atmosphere, from the teachers to the music to the space to the people who attend the classes. All around a beautiful atmosphere that makes me feel strong and welcome.
Favourite MISFIT class?
GET SHIFTED with Amber or GET LIFTED with Kat or GET CHEEKY with Lindsay or GET CLASSICAL with Amanda. I DON’T KNOW. I love them all.
Fondest memory from a MISFIT experience?
I believe it was one of Amber's classes I knew I had finally dove into the work and was not in my head anymore. I was completely in my body. Realized how much stronger I am mentally and physically.
Who inspires you and why?
All the women in my life.
What do you do to stay grounded?
Going to MISFIT, playing guitar or piano and just singing my heart out. I usually just freestyle lyrics on top and record it on my phone to keep it for later so I can build on what I wrote. Doing those things allows me to fully let go, it is the best feeling.
Favourite self-care ritual?
My night time routine on a night off: Usually do a face mask from Deciem, use my Province Apothecary exfoliator, some rose hip oil and eye cream. Put some ambient music on and write or read.
What's your spirit animal?
Panda for sure, also my favourite animal. Cute but also a little frightening, looks harmless but has a lot of strength and ferocity.
If you could develop any superpower, what would it be and why?
Mind reader. I would love to read other peoples minds, get inside of their souls and learn more about them. Mostly for writing music.
Favourite spot to brunch in the city?
School! So many good options and it has never let me down. Go with a friend and order 2 things, one sweet one savoury and share it. You should do that anywhere you eat out. Sharing is caring.
If you could hop on a plane to vacation anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?
Italy! I am planning a trip this fall! I have never been. I am Italian. I need to go!
What gives you strength?
Music. Either listening to music or creating music. It is the one thing that can get me through any situation and has always been there. Music is powerful.
Mat or reformer?
What qualities do you value the most?
Definitely sense of humour, kindness, and honesty.
If you could give your younger self one piece of wisdom, what would it be?
Never stop believing in yourself.
What does being a MISFIT mean to you?
Moving and shaking. Either in class or out of class constantly being true to yourself. And feeling as strong as I have ever been.
