Get to know Lo, a true Warrior Woman, female force and owner of Sole Survivor in Toronto. Lo has been practicing with MISFIT since its birth, lending her wisdom and mystic energy to weekly meditations and is a dear friend to the MISFITgang.
Tell us a bit about your day to day hustle
I own Sole Survivor – an all-female cobbler shop located in the heart of Kensington Market, my day involves me working with my hands and HEELING all the broken SOLES in Toronto.
What's your MISFIT love story?
I’ve been part of MISFIT since it first started on Dunn Ave. Only in the last three years have I been trying to make it part of my life’s routine. Getting to know and love my body through movement is my love story….
What is it that drew you to MISFIT?
Amber was the key that drew me to MISFIT but now it’s the whole house that keeps me coming back.
Favourite MISFIT class?
Get Lunar with Natalie Matias & Playful Yoga with Rachel McLean.
Fondest memory from a MISFIT experience?
Teaching a Be Still mediation together hand-in-hand with my #peacewarrior sister Natalie.
Who inspires you and why?
My TRIBE of women, it’s because of them that I have learned the importance of sisterhood. We uplift and encourage each other through the good and bad that life sometimes throws at us. I am the woman I am today because of them.
What do you do to stay grounded?
Daily morning pages keep my mind less cluttered, smudging my home and shop daily as well as picking my tarot card each day keeps me feeling more connected and grounded and foremost a good smoke from sweet mary-jane!
Favourite self-care ritual?
Weekly foot baths, with essential oils and dried flowers – it’s what helps me heal my own SOLE.
What's your spirit animal?
The horse was my spirit animal through the first couple of years of starting my business which helped me hone in my own power and endurance that I needed during that time, however since last year the Crow as been my companion showing me the magic of everyday life all whilst I am discovering my true identity and inner wisdom.
If you could develop any superpower, what would it be and why?
Flying, so the sky wouldn’t be the limit!
Favourite spot to brunch in the city?
Ourspot in Kensington Market – I value a small family owned diner that charges fair prices.
If you could hop on a plane to vacation anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?
Spain! The food, the shoes & FLAMENCO! It would be a dream to dance in Spain!
What gives you strength?
In this case it would be WHO gives me strength & that’s my lover and best friend Mr. Brown. He’s taught me the importance of “good things, take time” and life with him is good! <3
Mat or Reformer?
Mat – I have never taken Reformer, but there is something special about connecting, breathing and moving with my body alone and all I need to feel strong is the ground/mat that I stand on.
What qualities do you value the most?
HONESTY with ourselves and others!
If you could give your younger self one piece of wisdom, what would it be?
TAKE IT EASY! Appreciate the bad for it’s really the light that brightens up your good.
What does being a MISFIT mean to you?
“Wisdom tells me I am nothing, love tells me I am everything and between the two my life flows”.
