Tell us a bit about your day to day hustle
I am actually trying to rewrite the script around what it looks like to hustle. When I lived in Vancouver I felt overwhelmed and exhausted on a daily basis, filling up my plate and feeling guilty on days when I wasn’t busy enough. I got caught up in glorifying being busy, thinking it made me appear more successful. I am working on slowing down, taking time to walk in the city, cooking meals for myself and turning off email notifications on my phone so I don’t feel like I always need to be available or “on” for work. I created Feelosophy as a way to give people permission to slow down and to connect to them self through touch and music. Each day I try to do the same, permission to be slow in order to connect to all that is around me.
What's your MISFIT love story?
I first found MISFITSTUDIO on Instagram, before ever having been to Toronto. I loved the vibe and the feminine aspects of the page. I was visiting Toronto and wanted to teach some Feelosophy classes. I reached out and was welcomed with open arms, I felt so loved and supported from day one. The space had incredible magic, and held each person in class so perfectly.
What is it that drew you to MISFITSTUDIO?
The sense of community that had been created within the walls of the studio but also what exists outside of the space. That you can show up exactly how you are and feel loved and supported.
Favourite MISFITSTUDIO class?
Feelosophy haha, but I love Get Lifted. I was a dancer when I was younger and love moving my body to music. I feel the body holds onto so much that can be released through moving and being in your body.
Fondest memory from a MISFIT experience?
I taught a class at the Ossington studio and just as we were beginning the class it started to rain outside. The rain was such a perfect backdrop for release and cleansing. We lit candles and the energy in the space was so healing. Many people think that it must be exhausting touching so many people during a class, however in moments like this I feel re energized and my spirit and heart feels so full.
Who inspires you and why?
Always my Mom. I remember turning 20 and finally seeing my Mom as a person not just my Mom. When you see your parents for being these messy, beautiful, powerful people with stories and scars just like you. My Mom became a business owner when I was 12, leaving her steady job to work for herself. She taught me the importance of valuing your worth and self, and continues to be my number one supporter. She is always herself, fully expressed and not afraid to live her life how she wants to.
What do you do to stay grounded?
I love to cook meals for myself, take time to learn a new recipe or make something from scratch. Currently I make homemade pasta at least once a week. I drink wine and listen to music full blast.
Favourite self-care ritual?
Putting on lotion haha. I think the experience of soothing and nurturing your body can be so soothing. There is so much hype around self-care but companies are selling products to us as a form of self-care. I think we can care for ourselves by slowing down and appreciating the small things we do each day. Not rushing through things is my favourite form of self-care.
What's your spirit animal?
A dragonfly! I was swimming in a lake on Cortes Island off Vancouver, and this dragonfly kept landing on my head and staying with me throughout the day. Every time I see a dragonfly I know I am safe and supported.
If you could develop any superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation! I hate flying, but I love travelling. Commuting and being in cars, trains, buses makes my skin crawl but I love exploring and adventure. If I could teleport I would live my best life. I could go home for Sunday dinners in Calgary, swim in the ocean in Vancouver but then come back home to Toronto all in a day.
Favourite spot to brunch in the city?
I haven’t been out for brunch yet since moving here, so very open to suggestions. I am a weird fan of a cobb salad, and crave one most weeks. Tell me the best place to get a cobb salad everyone.
If you could hop on a plane to vacation anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?
I just want to go somewhere hot and eat and drink wine. Actually wait I do this already in my un-airconditioned apartment during Toronto summer, so maybe let's add a beach to my travel wish list. Portugal, Greece, Italy.
What gives you strength?
Knowing that each person in life is doing there best, that we are all learning, that no one has it figured out but that I feel there is nothing to figure out. Life is supposed to be magical and chaotic and challenging yet joyful. The ability to experience the full range of emotions of being human, and witnessing that in others around me gives me hope and therefore strength.
Mat or Reformer?
Mat, but I’ve never tried the Reformer so can’t give my full opinion yet.
What qualities do you value the most?
Vulnerability. Empathy. Curiosity.
If you could give your younger self one piece of wisdom, what would it be?
You are going to be okay. You are worthy of all that you desire. Don’t make yourself small in order to fit into someone else's ideals. And STOP popping your pimples, I know it is satisfying but that shit scars.
What does being a MISFIT mean to you?
Being a trailblazer in my own life. Taking leaps of faith. Getting uncomfortable once in a while in order to see what is possible.
