Tell us your love story with MISFIT
MISFITSTUDIO was the first studio I worked with when I moved to Toronto. I was introduced to Amber through my colleague in Montreal, and I auditioned to be their first Essentrics teacher. I was such a newbie in the fitness world here, but Amber brought me in right away and introduced me to an amazing community. That community has been part of my life for the past 4 years and it was grown immensely.
What is it about teaching that lights you up?
I think in a previous life I would be a dancer. Teaching/performing in front of a group of people fills me with energy! On top of that, I love educating people about their bodies and it feels amazing to know that I am making a positive difference in one’s quality of life.
If your best friend were to describe you in three words, what would those words be?
Energetic, talkative, loyal
Standout memory from your time at MISFIT?
I remember one of the first staff meetings I had at the studio. It was right around Valentine's Day. We were a small group, and Amber had us over at the studio in the evening. There were cute chocolates and pillows spread around a blanket for all of us to sit. It wasn’t just a staff meeting. It was a time to connect with all the other teachers and bond. I understood early on that Amber was trying to foster of community at the studio, and I always appreciated the little get togethers/bbq’s and dinners from that point on.
Where can we find you on a Sunday afternoon in the city?
Walking around Queen Street post-workout and brunch, or the complete opposite… meal prepping in my kitchen watching corny movies on Netflix.
Favourite class to teach?
Essentrics of course :)
Queen Street or Ossington?
Queen Street because it was my original home away from home. The couch in the waiting area is a safe haven :) I love Ossington too though because of the bright sunny room and intimate space!
Song you have on repeat?
At the moment…. “It ain’t wrong loving you” by Honne
Who is a Woman Warrior that inspires you?
Kate McKinnon because she is hilarious and amazing. On a more serious note, I look up to many women in my family.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
To be able to teleport from one location to another, so I could do more during the day and avoid wasting time to travel.
Favourite words to live by?
Be active now to be active later.
How do you like to start and end your day? Any go-to rituals?
I start my day by making my bed and having coffee with my future hubby. I end my day by making a list of what needs to be done the next day (I’m a bit neurotic if you can’t tell), then I put on my face cream (usually have a late night snack) and watch Netflix in bed.

What does being a MISFIT mean to you?
Being a MISFIT means moving to the beat of your own drum. As a teacher at MISFITSTUDIO, I feel I represent a brand that empowers people to find their own creative movement, and to be comfortable in their own skin.
You can find Lauren on the MISFITSTUDIO Schedule.
